kelzadiddle: (keep calm and read Wodehouse)
I'm starting to think I should start a 'shit my boyfriend says' section on this journal, because some of the crazy stuff he comes out with is unbelievable. I bring to you all two shining examples, both of which occurred under the same circumstances. We were in bed, it was probably about two o'clock in the morning, and he'd just woken up, but was on the verge of sleep.

Example the first. I was just lying there, minding my own business, trying to get back to sleep after peeling myself off the wall, when all of a sudden he grins and murmurs "tee hee! Homework!"

I glance at him, baffled. "Pardon?"

He pauses, then opens his eyes, looking just as confused. "I think I was dreaming. I was having this dream where you were a teacher."

Said Kelza: "Okay?"

Said Jason: *snore*

Bizarre, right? Example the second. Again, just lying there, minding my own business. I'd woken up for no known reason when he just starts laughing and goes "That's madness!"

"What's madness?" I ask.

"I don't know," says Jason. And then he snores.

I think that sometimes he comes out with this weird stuff, not realising he's actually awake. That last one got me because I really want to know what set him off laughing in the middle of the night and he doesn't remember a thing. What was madness? I must know, dammit! Maybe I didn't hear the capital letter and he was actually talking about Madness, as in the band?

I'm going to be working really hard these next few days to get some stories done and dusted in the hope that they'll get into either this week's or next week's paper. Like I've mentioned in a previous entry, I've got some good ones going on. It's great to be able to get my teeth into some of the more intriguing stories.

This week is set to be a fairly interesting one, actually. It got off to a good start in that I was able to stay over at Jason's - more on my use of the word 'able' in that sentence later. Tonight I'm going to be giving blood and on Friday I'll be going to a charity paranormal night, getting in free as I'm a reporter. I'll be live tweeting from the night itself and writing an extensive account of the freaky goings-on. If you're a fan of that kind of thing, watch this space!

The event will be run by UK Ghost Tours, and Para-Project will also be attending; if you've ever seen 'Spooks School' on the telly you'll be familiar with them. All funds raised will be donated to Cheshire Search and Rescue, who cover a vast area - despite their title, I believe they attend incidents all over the North West, St Helens included, and are a vital service to whom many owe their lives.

I'll be doing this event on my own. Jason, at first, grudgingly (and I mean really grudgingly; he took some persuasion!) agreed to come with me, but it was obvious that he really wasn't happy with it - he did confess that he wasn't a fan of the paranormal. At first I'll admit that I thought it was a bit silly. I didn't think he was the type to even believe in that kind of stuff. But it turns out it runs a wee bit deeper than that.

Okay, I'll warn you now. I'm going to go off on a bit of a tangent here. Just so you know.

Said tangent is under the cut... )

INT. WESLEY METHODIST CHURCH - AFTERNOON

KELZA sits with JASON, holding his left hand in her right, her own left arm bare on the table next to her. A NURSE presses cotton wool against her arm where blood has recently been taken. A stern DOCTOR holds a blood sample, eyeing it with disapproval.

DOCTOR
I'm afraid we won't be able to use this blood, Miss Pilkington.

KELZA
(Confused, mildly annoyed)
Why not? You aren't about to tell me I went through that hell for nothing!

NURSE
Calm down, unless you want to faint!

DOCTOR
(Calmly)
We've taken the time to analyse your donation and the findings are - well, shall we say... interesting.

KELZA
Oh yes?

And the good doctor continued... )

Just a quick update on new and forthcoming adventures in the world of Kelza: Journalist, Bereted Warrior, Eccentric of the Star. I didn't know these things were coming up for me this morning otherwise I would have written about them in my last couple of entries.

First and foremost, the latest Harry Potter film is coming out soon, and I've been tasked with attempting to track down David Yates, the St Helens-born director, for an interview. Apparently this guy is really hard to get hold of and you can see why, working on such a high-profile film. The media must be swarming all over him. Steve and Steven (ah, colleagues with similar names!) have recommended I try through the production company. Wish me luck!

Second, and not so high profile but still bloody exciting, is a potential interview with 'One-Armed Wonder' Keith Xander. Keith is frontman for Xander and the Peace Pirates, a band who are popular on the 'net and have just celebrated the release of their debut album with an Irish tour. Amazingly, and as you can probably tell by his nickname, Keith only has one arm. And he can play guitar.

Awesome, right? I was going to go see them at the Zoo Bar on July 15 anyway as they're the first act ever to grace Zoo's weekly Strongbow Stage music night, they sound awesome (they play a groovy blend of funky soul and rock) and the gig is free entry. So I'll have the chance to talk to Keith, find out how the heck he manages to play guitar so well with one arm (he uses a hook-like apparatus, so I've read, but I can't imagine how it might work) and get a cracking interview for a piece! Then I can see the gig, do a review, and there's my foot in the door for concert reviewing! Hooray!

Have I ever mentioned that I love my job?
