kelzadiddle: (Caution! Zombies Ahead! Roadsign)
Hello everyone! Just letting you all know that I made it to Ireland safe and well. The ferry didn't sink, I wasn't killed en route to Stranraer and I have thus far avoided being killed by bandits and ninjas.

So why have I neglected my journal for yet another week? The answer, my friends, is simple.

One, welcome week and commuting have both kept me exceptionally busy and two, I'm rather lazy. But you all know that already!

What I have been doing, however, is writing daily letters to Jason. They're basically accounts of what I've been up to each day, plus a crapload of waffling about how much I miss him and all the rest.

I'll post them up here for you all to read (the ones I've written, anyway) - though they're personal, this journal has always been rather personal in nature anyway and there's nothing in the letters that is too private. Plus, missing Jason - and indeed everyone back home - is all part of the university experience for me.

I hope everyone's doing fantastically, and I promise I'll get my act together soon! I'd hate to graduate after three years and have no record in my journal of the epic adventures between now and then!

Glad you arrived safely! When do you start lectures and everything?

Lectures start on Monday. This week was just welcome week; like an induction sort of thing. In two days, the hardcore work begins and I actually can't wait :'D *nerd who loves school work*

Have you started back yet or was last academic year your third?

Ah I see :) what is it you're studying again? (I'm so forgetful! Though I'm going to assume it's English/Journalism related.) I hope you enjoy your first week (and the rest, come to that!) :)

I'm back next Friday for freshers week, actual lectures start on October 10th (I think).

Hello stranger! Long time no chinwag!

All's well on my end - I'm now in the land of the leprechauns as an undergrad and though things were a bit awry with finances and all that, everything's falling into place. I'm just adjusting to it all at the minute - still missing family and friends terribly, but I just have to get on with life, stay in touch and settle in properly :D

How be you?

- "Irish ninjas"; we're trying to get a clear picture of what these guys might look like, and we're thinking ... maybe each would have a small pony keg of Guinness strapped to their back, as they stood perfectly still, like a shaft of Connemara wheat waiting for a breeze; then their mouth would open with a flash, like their jaws were hinged on springs, and they'd spew a sudden, frothy sea of punching, kicking words; then they'd stop dead still again, and calmly refill their glass with the brown and frothy brew they carry on their back, "the muh-ther's meelk of Eire."

Believed to be descended from leprechauns, Irish ninjas are distinguished by their red hair (they blend in, being your stereotypical Irishmen and women) and their fondness for heavily accented drunken muttering. Irish ninjas come in two varieties; the Catholics are born in litters of about seven at a time, Protestants the same. To mix the two varieties is only disasterous in the media.
Irish ninjas are so successful at what they do that they are impossible to see. This is for two reasons. One: they're grotesquely unpopular compared to their Japanese counterparts and two: they don't actually exist.

Except for Baby June O'Tooled, the Irish ninja stripper who came to Las Vegas in 1983 from Toolum Carry, County Corduroy, "to meet Mr. Wayne Newton and run my fingers through the axle grease he uses on his hair." At The Desert Sans Hotel and Casino -- an establishment much like its namesake The Desert Sands Hotel and Casino, except for the fact that The Desert Sans was just a patch of desert without a hotel or casino -- one fan described the dexterity of Baby June's dancing, ninja fingers as "capable of the kind of instant gratification sailors usually find only in jars of pitted olives."

Baby June danced in Vegas for twenty years, living off a diet of hard, rolled oats and cigarettes she rolled from the old men's undershirts that convention-goers often lost at the gaming tables. On her usual Monday evenings off, she could be seen by The Desert Sans Hotel and Casino pool, practicing her back stroke across the painted sands.

I'm glad too :P There are some lunatic drivers on the roads in Britain and the further North we got the scarier it was, as most drivers were big lorries taking cargo to the ferry :P Plus we were hauling a trailer full of sofas that my stepdad had bought to sell on, so driving uphill was quite nerve-wracking. I'm surprised we made it up the ramp and onto the boat with that load behind us!

All is going well so far - finance was a bit of an issue but thankfully I've been put onto the right people in the Students' Union to help me out now, so things should be okay. Actual work starts Monday and I'm so excited :DDDD

Monday?! That's so close! You'll have to let us know how day 1 goes. How many classes are you taking?

Three in each semester. In my first I'm taking 'English in Transition', 'Introduction to English Language' and 'Approaches to Philosophy'. There are no classes timetabled for Creative Writing but there's an optional workshop we can do every Wednesday (as well as the Queen's Writers' Group), and there'll be actual Creative Writing modules we can choose next year and the year after.

All very exciting :) I anticipate my first day will go well!

Well, just make sure that all teeth are in tact at the end. I also urge your course to get rabies shots prior to Monday for protection purposes.

OH MY GOD I LOVE YOUR ICON <3 That episode used to scare me when I was a kid :') *was a weird child*

Much fun shall be had, I assure you :D The university is fantastic and there's so much going on on the extracurricular side, can't get my head around it all! I'm looking forward to throwing myself into university life when the finances come through.

Ha, it's one of my favorites, just for the X-Files jokes.

Yeah, definitely jump and join something! I joined a community service fraternity my first semester at college, and it's been fantastic. Great way to meet people and feel helpful.
